International Symposium on Architecture and Sustainable Built Environment (IS-ASBE) International Symposium on Architecture and Sustainable Built Environment (IS-ASBE)

The environmental problems in contemporary society today have their origin in the industrial revolution that began in the eighteenth century, when, amid air pollution and lack of the public hygiene measures, very poor living conditions were created due to the rapid growth of population. Now that industrial productions and distributions are quickly becoming globalized, there is hardly any part of the world that is free from the unwanted environmental impacts. The problems of pollution, energy consumption, as well as living conditions have become critical issues. These issues, together with the rapid growth of the world population, have created problems that in many ways exceed the earth’s capacity to deal with the problems and requires us to think about sustainable building, city and community.

The word “environment” means “everything that surrounds earth’s inhabitants and affects them in many different ways”; the idea of environment can be understood within a series of micro, mezzo, and macro meanings. Built environment, such as buildings, can be considered as the first environmental layer of human’s life. Beyond the building, there are natural and social environments. Buildings, neighbourhoods, towns, cities, and regions should be seen as interconnected global environment through the worldwide flow of resources. Understanding issues of micro, mezzo and macro environments is important in creating sustainable living environments.

Looking into the causes of the environmental problems on daily basis, one may consider that many of them are derived from the day-to-day lifestyles and the patterns of consumption. The fresh approaches to address problems related to the limited capacity of the environment and the creation good quality of life are in highly demand. New sets of architectural research, community practices, city planning are emerging at all scales – from the scale of individual buildings to the city-scales..

The IS-ASBE in 18th QiR will bring opportunity for researchers, scientists, scholars, industry representatives, postdoctoral fellows, and students around the world to share their knowledge and research expertise. The conference provides a forum to examine and discuss research, proposed solution, and methods to implement sustainable development, and to stimulate more ideas and useful insights regarding architecture and urban development within the context of sustainability. The topics of IS-ASBE include, but is not limited to:

  1. Preservation and Innovation of Cultural Heritage and Urban Studies
  2. Design Studies, Human Behaviour, and Contemporary Architecture
  3. Sustainable Housing, Interior Design, and Changing Lifestyle
  4. Net-Zero Buildings and Climate Adaptive Technologies
